Durham Man Dies From Injuries Suffered In Beating

DURHAM, N.C. — A well-known Durham Bulls employee who was severely beaten after an argument over money died Tuesday morning.

Jerome Gilbert, 56, of Hardrian Drive, was walking with a friend on Aug. 21 when, police said, several men approached them and started harassing them.

Gilbert, who worked as a parking attendant at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for several years, was critically injured and had been in the hospital since the attack.

Earlier this month, police arrested Damion D'Andre Wilson, 19, of Durham, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the assault. Wilson posted a $20,000 bond and was released from jail.

Investigators on Tuesday upgraded the charge against Wilson to murder and were asking for the public's assistance in locating him. Anyone with information on Wilson's whereabouts is asked to contact the Durham Police Department at
