Diverted AirTran Flight Lands At RDU

Posted Updated

MORRISVILLE, N.C. — An AirTran Airways flight was briefly diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport early Sunday morning after a pilot reported possible suspicious activity on board.

Flight 935, which departed from Newark, N.J., and was en route to Atlanta, deviated from its flight path about 7:30 a.m., an RDU International Airport spokeswoman Valerie Beu said.

She did not say what caused the pilot to decide to land the plane.

All of the passengers on the flight were checked, interviewed and were cleared through security once the plan landed, and all of the passengers were cleared to get back on the plane.

The plane was scheduled to arrive in Atlanta at 9:37 a.m., about 30 minutes after its original arrival time.

No charges will be filed, Beu said.
