Weekend Searches Planned To Locate Missing Woman

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Dozens of volunteers plan to search areas across the Triangle this weekend in hopes of finding a Wendell woman who has been missing more than a week.

Cynthia Moreland, 48, was last seen when she dropped her husband off for work on Aug. 22. Her car was found abandoned the following day in southeast Raleigh.

A Garner man who police said tried to use Moreland's debit card at a Raleigh discount store shortly after her disappearance has been charged with kidnapping in the case. But authorities have come up with no solid leads on the woman's whereabouts.

Groups of employees from Progress Energy and WakeMed, where Moreland and her husband worked, respectively, and members of the family's church plan to scour various locations Saturday in the hope of finding clues that could help locate Moreland.

The three groups together have pledged a total of $30,000 reward for information that would help solve her disappearance.

Police haven't released information on the areas to be searched.
