Durham Man Suspected Of Assault On Elderly Woman

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A man suspected of attacking an elderly woman is due in court Monday. Investigators arrested Maurice Caston in connection with an unrelated break-in, but they say he may be the man who attacked an 89-year-old woman and stole her belongings.

Caston was taken into custody Saturday night at the Budget Inn on Holloway Street. Caston was wanted for questioning in the Thursday attack of Marie Miller, who lives in Durham's Northgate Park neighborhood.

Authorities said a man broke into Miller's home and surprised her when she returned from the beauty parlor.

Miller said the man knocked her down and tried choking her, but she fought back until finally the man took off. The man got away with Miller's car and cell phone.

Caston was arrested for a break-in not far from Miller's home, and now Durham investigators suspect he attacked Miller.
