4-Year-Old Killed When Car Strikes Porch

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A 4-year-old boy was killed early Saturday when an alleged drunken driver struck him on his front porch in Rocky Mount.

According to authorities, Keligah Randolph was sitting on the porch on Buena Vista Avenue when he was struck by a Volkswagen driven by Rebecca Neville, 25.

Emergency personnel rushed Randolph to Nash General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Randolph's family said that Neville and the boy's mother were having an argument in the street when Neville put her car in gear, spun her wheels, and drove through the yard and onto the porch.

According to family members, Randolph's sisters were also at the scene and saw the car strike their brother.

"They saw their little brother with his eyes open, and they asked me, 'Is he coming back? We want our brother back," said Randolph's godmother, Geneka Ricks. "And all that I could tell them is, 'No, he's gone to a better place.'"

Neville has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired. She was released from the Edgecombe County Detention Center Saturday on a $5,000 bond. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
