Local Skateboarders Plan To Open Indoor Park

Posted Updated

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — Some skateboarders want to help themselves and their image.

They're building an indoor skate park on U.S. 1 in Moore County, south of Pinebluff. The project is non-profit, and most of the people behind the project are teenagers.

The planners have raised $10,000 for the park.

"You know, bake sales, bingo night," said skateboarder Darren Coles.

The skateboarders plan to open the park by the end of August. It will cost $5 to skate all day. That money is expected to go back into the facility.

Right now, local skateboarders congregate at a roped-off part of a parking lot in Aberdeen. The planners said their goal is to keep kids off the streets and improve their reputation.

"Skaters aren't bad," said Coles.
