BellSouth Expands Metro Ethernet Solution Across Its Nine-State Network

Posted Updated

ATLANTA, GA. — BellSouth is making Metro Ethernet services available across its entire network.

The capability enables customers to link their local area networks across the BellSouth nine-state coverage area at a variety of speeds. Its Managed Network Virtual Private Network (VPN) offering allows customers to connect LANS despite differences and requirements in those networks.

Multi-protocol label switching, or MPLS, enables companies to integrate their LANs even if operating on different access methods of reaching the Internet, such as frame relay or digital subscriber line, BellSouth said.

"Integrating Metro Ethernet access with BellSouth's MPLS-based Network VPN solution expands the networking options available to customers," said Martin Chandler, vice president of product management for business markets at BellSouth. "BellSouth continues to enhance its Network VPN solution to enable businesses to support a broad base of enterprise applications in a managed environment."

Speeds of 10 megabits per second (Mbps), 20Mbps, 50Mbps, 100Mbps, 250Mbps and 500Mbps are available.
