N.C. Powerball Sales Growing As Jackpot Jumps

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Powerball ticket sales in North Carolina have jumped to record highs -- just as the jackpot has been growing each week.

For the last four Powerball lottery drawings, no one has won the jackpot. And, as that has happened, more people have purchased tickets hoping to win the ever-increasing prize.

The potential winnings have ranged from $116 million to $178 million. They jumped again after Wednesday night, when no one won, to $204 million for Saturday's drawing.

Sales have gone from just over a half-million tickets for the July 22 drawing to nearly 750,000 for the Wednesday drawing -- a nearly 50 percent jump.

The money spent on tickets has also increased about 50 percent, with money spent going from $2.1 million on July 22 to $3.1 million for the most recent drawing.

Raw dollar sales are higher than the ticket amounts because players can pay an extra $1 to Power Play and/or buy tickets for future drawings.
