Attorneys For House Speaker Seek Reversal Of Elections Board's Decision

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A hearing was held Tuesday in a Wake County courtroom connected to questions about House Speaker Jim Black's campaign finances.

Black's attorneys told a judge that the speaker did not violate campaign laws by accepting checks that were blank where the payees' names should be.

The state Board of Elections said the problem is that the contribution limits were exceeded by nearly $7,000. The board wants the Black campaign to forfeit the extra money.

The board also said Black did not adequately report individual donor contributions.

There is no word when the judge may make a ruling.
