Former Business School Dean To Lead Carolina North Project

Evans, a PhD, was named executive director of Carolina North this week by James Moeser, chancellor at UNC-CH. Evans is currently Hettleman Professor of Business at the business school.

Carolina North is the new campus planned two miles north of the UNC campus. The project will utilize land where Horace Williams Airport is located. Plans call for the campus to include a research park, academic buildings, residential areas, business space, public schools and green space.

"Jack will be a great advocate for Carolina North," Moeser said in a statement. "Jack has close ties with the community and a distinguished, sustained record of leadership on campus. He shares my belief that Carolina North represents the future of the University and is our highest priority. I am grateful for his willingness to embrace this new challenge to create opportunities for amazing discovery and innovation."

Evans received a two-year appointment. He also will work with the Leadership Advisory Committee, a group of people that will offer the university input on the Carolina North project. Evans is already a member of the committee.

Carolina North is not a new project for Evans. At one time he was special assistant to the chancellor for Carolina North. A member of the faculty since 1970, he served on a campus advisory committee about the project under previous chancellors.

Evans served as dean of Kenan-Flagler from 1978-1987 and as interim dean of two other occasions.
