Dozens Gather To Urge Lumbee Tribe Recognition

Posted Updated

LUMBERTON, N.C. — The Lumbee tribe gave one more push for full federal recognition on Wednesday.

Dozens gathered at UNC-Pembroke to urge federal lawmakers to vote their way. In one week, a Senate committee plans to decide whether to recommend recognition to the full Senate.

Recognition could mean almost $80 million a year for schools, homes, health care, and new businesses.
