Gas Prices Temporarily Forcing John Deere Workers Out Of Jobs

Posted Updated

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Higher gas prices are temporarily forcing hundreds of local workers out of a job.

The John Deere plant in Fuquay-Varina is asking about 500 workers to voluntarily take off from work for the next three months.

Company officials hope the time off will prevent layoffs.

They say that demand is down for their professional lawn-mowing equipment because of rising gas prices.

Last year, the plant shut down for several weeks to save money.
