Suspect Faces Multiple Charges After Allegedly Dragging Officer

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — New charges have been filed against the driver accused of dragging a police officer who was attempting to arrest him.

Raleigh police said Tony French was trying to sell stolen car parts Thursday when a detective showed up.

French allegedly tried to flee, ramming two cars and dragging a detective who tried to reach in to grab the keys and was trapped when French sped away.

The officer was not seriously injured. French is now in jail, charged with attempted murder.

French is also charged with stealing 16 spare tires -- presumably the car parts he was trying to sell.
