Durham Police Chief Asks For $60K To Assess Gang Violence

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham leaders are looking for a different point of view to deal with the city's gang problem.

Durham Police Chief Steve Chalmers asked the City Council Thursday for $60,000 to hire two consultants to put together a comprehensive assessment on the gang problem.

Both the police department and the Durham County Sheriff's Office want to know exactly how many members there are and where they are.

The consultants would then draw up a plan on how the two agencies can work together to deal with the gang problem.
