RALEIGH, N.C. — Members of the U.S. Marshals' Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested a man who had been sought in connection with a July 2005 slaying in Virginia.

Raphael Davon Smith, 18, of Norfolk, Va., was taken into custody at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Members of the task force, along with Raleigh officials, were conducting surveillance at a residence on Lake Wheeler Road, where they believed Smith was staying.

When authorities entered the residence, they arrested Smith without incident. Smith was wanted on suspicion of murder in the death of Christopher Cruz in Norfolk. He also has two outstanding warrants for robbery and one for obstruction of justice. Those warrants were not related to the homicide.

Authorities said Smith is a member of the Bloods gang.

Two other people -- Crystal Griffis and Derek Louis Griffis -- were arrested at the time on other charges. All three people are currently in the Wake County Jail.
