ATLANTA, GA. — Microsoft is funneling $1 million over the next three years to create an Institute for Personal Robots in Education at Georgia Tech and Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.

The colleges are also contributing $1 million to the effort.

The effort is intended to help boost enrollment and retention in college computer classes by in part delivering robotics technology designed for teaching purposes.

Georgia Tech's College of Computing will receive the $1 million to develop what Microsoft calls "practical new ways" to use robotics in computer science curriculum.

Microsoft recently introduced a preview of a development platform for robotics called Microsoft Robotics Studio.
