Wake County Patient Hospitalized With Respiratory Symptoms

CARY, N.C. — A patient was admitted to Western Wake Medical Center Monday with respiratory symptoms that state health epidemiologists now describe as a "case of special interest" and is under investigation. A diagnosis of SARS has not been confirmed.

WakeMed's occupational health and infection control specialists have been working with infection control specialists from Wake County Human Services and from the state Division of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control to ensure the health and safety of hospital employees and the community.

As a precaution, WakeMed has notified all employees and staff who have come in contact with the patient.The employees are being monitored for signs and symptoms of respiratory illness under the direction of the health officials.
