WestPoint Plant In Scotland County To Lay Off Nearly 400

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Nearly 400 people will lose their jobs when a

WestPoint Stevens

facility closes in 60 days in Scotland County.

The plant -- a weaving facility -- is located in

Wagram

. It employs 370 people who make towels.

The plant closing does not affect the Bob Stevens plant in Scotland County.

Previously, in May 2005, more than 200 workers were laid off at the Wagram plant.

At that time, the company planned to rehire those workers eventually, but whether that happened is unknown.

WestPoint Stevens, a textiles maker, declared bankruptcy three years ago.
