All Lanes Reopened On I-40

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — There's good news for drivers on I-40 through Johnston and Wake counties. All lanes are now open after overnight construction.

The Department of Transportation temporarily closed an inside lane of Interstate 40 eastbound and westbound between N.C. 42 and U.S. 70 overnight. The roadwork was part of a paving project for the U.S. 70 Bypass.

Workers finished the work 4 1/2 hours earlier than expected early Saturday morning. All lanes were back open by 7:30 a.m.

Drivers could run into more roadwork next weekend. Crews say weather permitting, they will shut down lanes to install parts of an overpass. The bypass project is slated for completion in June 2009.
