First-Year Duke Students To Get Restaurant Money

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — First-year students at Duke University will get a welcome gift: $50.

"Duke Dining/Durham Dollars" is a pilot program that introduces new students to the community. The students will only be able to use the money for food items at restaurants near campus around Ninth Street.

Elliott Wolf, president of Duke Student Government, said the program should benefit both students and owners of restaurants near campus.

"Durham has a lot to offer Duke students," Wolf said. "We are excited that this program is in place to convey that to first-year students and help local businesses at the same time."

More than 1,600 students will participate in the pilot program.
