DURHAM, N.C. — Twelve women were arrested during an undercover prostitution sting in eastern Durham.
Police say the operation was conducted Friday in response to complaints from area residents.
The following people were arrested:
Monica Rae Lopez, 41, of Commonwealth Street was arrested near Ashe and Driver streets and charged with solicitation and loitering for crimes against nature. Frances Yvonne Watkins, 21, of Cardens Lane was arrested near Angier Avenue and Clay Street and charged with solicitation, loitering for crimes against nature and possession of drug paraphernalia. Janita Michelle Cheek, 28, of Ashe Street was arrested near Morning Glory Avenue and Plum Street and charged with solicitation, loitering for crimes against nature and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also served with warrants charging her with misdemeanor larceny and damage to property. Pansy Viola Gray, 40, of Wade Drive was arrested near Driver and Liberty streets and charged with solicitation and loitering for crimes against nature. Anita Marie Poole, 40, of Liberty Street was arrested near Elm Street and Morning Glory Avenue and charged with solicitation, loitering for crimes against nature and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also served with orders for arrest for solicitation and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sandra Denise Braxton, 46, of East Main Street was arrested near Taylor and Elm streets and charged with solicitation and loitering for crimes against nature. Sonya Denise Rowland, 46, of Capps Street was arrested near Alston Avenue and Granby Street and charged with solicitation and loitering for crimes against nature. Shatosha Walker, 32, of Grant Street was arrested near Mallard Avenue and Elizabeth Street and charged with solicitation, loitering for crimes against nature and possession of drug paraphernalia. Aretha Denise Johnson, 34, of Liberty Street was arrested near Holloway and Railroad streets and charged with solicitation and loitering for crimes against nature. Jewel Nicole Watson, 29, of Douglas Street was arrested near Railroad and Liberty streets and charged with solicitation and loitering for crimes against nature. Lisa Raiford, 47, of Fern Street was arrested in the 1100 block of Spruce Street and charged with solicitation, loitering for crimes against nature and possession of cocaine. Robin Renee Starnes, 41, of no known address was arrested near Holloway and Dillard streets and charged with solicitation, loitering for crimes against nature, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
