Mother, daughter killed in Aberdeen mobile home fire

The fire started in the kitchen of the home, at 257 Heflin Road, off U.S. Highway 15/501, at about 7:30 a.m., according to the Moore County Sheriff's Office.

A woman called 911 to report that her home was on fire and that she was trapped inside, authorities said.

By the time firefighters arrived, flames had engulfed the home.

Investigators found the bodies of Judith Seabolt, 81, and her daughter, Patricia Rogers, 60, in the rubble of the home after extinguishing the fire, authorities said.

"She was always a beautiful lady. She had classic features. She was beautiful," said Mary Smith, a longtime friend of Seabolt's.

Smith said Seabolt's husband died several years ago, and Rogers moved in to care for her mother.

"She just sort of wore out, you might say," Smith said of Seabolt. "She was just depressed. She got very thin."

Neighbor Dorothy Hudson said she will miss the small talk and little visits with the two women.

"They were just quiet people. I'd go sit on the swing set with them and talk. We'd talk back and forth through the fence," Hudson said.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire and why the women couldn't escape.
