Suspect Sought In Fayetteville Woman's Death

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police are searching for a suspect in a woman's shooting death.

Arrest warrants on charges of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon have been issued for 16-year-old Eric Vanderwerf. Police said that he shot 18-year-old Marilyn White to death early Thursday morning.

White was found dead of a gunshot wound in the parking lot of an Eckerd Drug store around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Police said Jeffery Swain Jr., 17, was also found shot in the parking lot and was transported to Cape Fear Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

Vanderwerf is described as 5 ft. 6 in. tall and weighs 135-145 pounds. Police said he was last seen in the area of Rim Road near Cliffdale Road early Friday evening, wearing dark pants and a yellow shirt.
