RALEIGH, N.C. — A man who helped lay the foundation for Wake County Schools 30 years ago said Thursday that year-round scheduling is not the best plan for the school system now.
"The year-round school, while it can solve some problems, it does cause some confusion in the community. I think the best solution to the problem is to build the traditional school," said former Wake County Superintendent John Murphy.
John Murphy was in Raleigh to mark the 30th anniversary of the merger of Raleigh City and Wake County Schools. He was superintendent for the first five years of the combined school system.
Murphy said the success of the Wake County School System is why so many people want to move here. He said he supports the $1 billion bond to deal with the growth.
