UNC Charlotte To Host Annual Biotechnology Conference On Oct. 12

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The fifth annual

"Charlotte's Emerging Role in Biotechnology

" conference is set for Thursday, Oct. 12.

More than 200 biotech and industry leaders are expected to attend the daylong event, which is put on by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Keynote speaker is Mark Arizmendi, president of Angiogen, a Charlotte-based firm that is developing treatments for cancerous tumors.

Other speakers include Leslie Alexandre, president of N.C. Biotech Center; Clyde Higgs, vice president of business development for the N.C. Research Campus in Kannapolis; Larry Mays, director of UNC Charlotte's Bioinformatics Center; Robin Coger, director of UNC Charlotte's Center for Biomedical Engineering Systems; and Mark Clemens, director of UNC Charlotte's Translational Research Initiative.
