RALEIGH, N.C. — DWI charges have been filed against a woman who crashed her SUV near N.C. State and sent seven people to the hospital.

It happened shortly after midnight Saturday on Hillsborough Street at Horne Street.

Raleigh police said 23-year-old Natasha Gaddy drove her Ford Explorer through a red light and hit a Mustang. The Explorer went airborne and slammed into a pole.

Ambulances took away six people from the Explorer and one from the Mustang. Police described their injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

Gaddy has been charged with DWI, running a red light, and careless and reckless driving.

Police said if the Explorer had not hit the pole, it could have run down a number of people on the sidewalk.
