Officials found high levels of lead in the water near Rainbow Court and Cedar Street. Public Works Director Michael Bajorek has told the people who live in that area of town to stop drinking the water.
Only the people who live in that area - fewer than 100 of the roughly 104,000 residents of Cary - are the ones who may be affected. They have received a
letter
notifying them of the problem, and they have also been advised to get blood tests.
After receiving many calls from concerned Cary residents, a town official emphasized Thursday night that only the people living in the area of Rainbow Court and Cedar Street are the ones who need to be concerned.
Crews from the city reportedly are working to put in a new water line, which should fix the problem. Meanwhile, the city is providing free bottled water as a precaution.
