Johnston County Approves Sales Tax Hike

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Johnston officials have agreed to a countywide sales tax increase.

Commissioners voted unanimously for the proposal Monday night. The change takes effect July 1.

Officials say Johnston County should collect an extra $4.5 million a year from the increase.

Several other counties, including Wake, Durham and Chatham, are already benefiting from higher sales taxes.
