Carolyn King, a protester in Raleigh, said America should be able to find a way to resolve differences with Iraq withoutkilling innocent people. The elderly protester stood bundled up in layers of clothing and a stocking cap to ward off the cold.
Protesters are also distributing leaflets that claim the United States is responsible for the deaths of 5,000 Iraqi every month for the past 10 years. They are also protesting N.C. Sen. John Edwards and his support for the potential war against Iraq.
The protesters claim they have a petition with thousands of signatures, which they intend to present to a member of Edwards' office.
Other demonstrations are planned Tuesday in Asheville, Charlotte, Fayetteville and Greensboro.
