Sacco Nazloomian restores old films in Los Angeles, but now he will have a chance to restore war-torn areas. He graduated Thursday from a Reservist civil affairs course. As a Special Operations reserve soldier, he said he is ready for his new role.
"After President Bush made the call for the average citizen to join the reserves, I thought maybe I can play a part in history, make a small difference," he said.
As the war against terrorism continues, reservists have played an active part. Brig. Gen. Paulette Risher said the new graduates need to be prepared now more than ever.
"The sacrifices they've made, the challenges they've faced. They get to go do this for real," she said.
Earlier on Thursday, another group of civilians became soldiers. A class of troops graduated from a psychological operations specialist course.
