Cumberland County Teenager Arrested On Rape Charges

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville teenager is being held in the Cumberland County Jail on $75,000 secured bond after being arrested Saturday on charges of first-degree rape of a child and indecent liberties with a minor.

Charlie Megal McNeill, 17, will make his first appearance in District Court on Monday morning.

McNeill is accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl left in his care Thursday night.

Cumberland County investigators say that, at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday, the mother of the victim left her two children - the victim and her 2-year-old brother - with McNeill as she went out for the night with McNeill's brother. McNeill also was left in charge of his brother's two stepchildren, ages 2 and 4.

When the mother of the victim returned to McNeill's residence around 12:45 a.m. Friday morning, according to investigators, she found evidence that her daughter may have been sexually assaulted. She reported her suspicions to the sheriff's office, and an investigation was conducted that resulted in the arrested of McNeill.
