Franklin Woman's Labor Of Love Reunites Missing Pets With Owners

Every Tuesday, Viv Graves tries to tell the world about the unclaimed animals at the

Franklin County Animal Shelter

. A photo of every adoptable dog or cat goes on the local Humane Society's Web site. Graves said if the dogs are lost, maybe their owners will see them from their computers at work.

"If they can't get off work, they can look and if they see the dog, then they can take off work and come claim it," she said.

Animal shelter officials said they are grateful for the high-tech help.

"It gives the animals a second chance. They work very well with us, and we're glad to have them," said Alton Leonard, who works at the animal shelter.

Graves said the Web site is a lot of work, but it is a labor of love.

"Every Tuesday, I usually end up in tears because I know that some of them, most of them, will not get home, but for each dog that I save, that's one I've saved and it makes a difference to that dog and that's why I do it," she said.

Both the Humane Society and the animal shelter agree that the best way to protect your pet is to make sure it can be identified with either a rabies tag, ID tag or microchip if it gets lost.
