Business, Holiday Travelers Combine For Extra Long Wait At RDU

Posted Updated

MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Monday mornings are always busy at RDU International; however, the Monday after Thanksgiving was especially hectic.

Travelers in Terminal A faced longer-than-usual lines as they waited to go through security checkpoints for the earliest flights. Lines backed into the Terminal A extension.

RDU spokesperson Mindy Hamlin said Monday is traditionally busy with business travelers, but said people heading home after the long holiday weekend contributed to the checkpoint crunch.

Airport authority employees helped out and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was at full staff, but no one foresaw the crunch.

The airlines pulled passengers out of the line as their departure time approached and ran them through security.

Hamlin said things resumed to normal by midday. She reminds travelers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled flights.
