Speed Ruled Factor In Car Crash That Kills Two

Posted Updated

WENDELL, N.C. — Police have ruled that excessive speed was a factor in Monday's single-car accident that killed two people near the Rolesville exit on Highway 64 in Wake County.

The victims in the 5:30 a.m. accident were identified as John Junior Burgess of Wendell and Adrian Arnez Vick of Wendell. It was determined that Burgess was driving.

Police believe Burgess overcompensated after veering left in the westbound lanes. The car ran off the road and into some trees.

Vick attended St. Augustine's College in Raleigh and was a member of the women's basketball team. Burgess, Vick's boyfriend, reportedly was not a student there.

The couple had two children, a 4-year-old and 1-year-old, who will now be raised by her family

Vick's team played a game in Virginia on Tuesday night after making a late decision to compete. As of Wednesday afternoon, the team reportedly still planned to play a game in Atlanta this weekend.

Saint Augustine's has set up a memorial fund in Vick's name. For information on how to make a donation, call 516-4090.
