Harnett Woman Believes Pack Of Dogs Responsible For Killing Sheep

Debbie Cotten was not prepared for the horror of what she saw when she walked to her pasture Thursday morning. She said a pack of dogs were attacking and killing the sheep.

"[I was] just really shocked. You wouldn't expect something like this to be happening in this area. We never had problems with the dogs in the past," she said.

Cotten said the dogs killed 13 sheep. Making matters worse, Cotten said many of the sheep were pregnant. The sheep that survived are now at a new home, but that does not make Cotten feel any better.

"It does make you think twice, I do have a 3-year-old son. My husband and I are concerned that the dogs might come back," she said.

The Harnett County Sherriff's Office is now trying to figure out who owns the dogs. Agricultural experts say deadly attacks by dogs and coyotes are actually a big problem for North Carolina's sheep and goat producers.
