Raleigh To Get Red-Light Cameras, But Police Already Writing Fewer Tickets

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Red light cameras are coming to Raleigh with a million-dollar price tag. Even though the city is getting the cameras, the problem is not as bad as people may think.

Raleigh police officials said they have written a third fewer red light and stop sign tickets this year compared with the same time last year.

Police also say they are spending more time answering calls and patrolling neighborhoods than on traffic enforcement.

Raleigh police will have nothing to do with the red light cameras. A private company will run them.
