Two Cumberland Schools Remember Victims Of Double Shooting

Deputies said Domonic Johnson, 20, accidentally shot through the window of his mobile home at Tanglewood Estates, fatally shooting his niece Ja'Crystal Fenwick, 17, and injuring her neighbor Anthony Parker, 12. Investigators say Johnson started firing during an altercation with two other men.

Authorities do not believe Fenwick and Parker were the intended targets.

Fenwick was a mother and a junior at South View High School. At South View High School and South View Middle School, where Parker attends, counselors are on hand, working with students.

South View High School's flag is flying at half-staff and a pep rally for an upcoming football game and a senior activity has been canceled. Although the shooting is not school-related, officials have placed South View High School on lockdown.

"If you are responsible for 2,512 kids on a day where someone lost their life, I think you would lock it down too," South View High School principal Bob Barnes said.

Sandy Huffer, a teacher at South View High School, said she talked to Fenwick on her last day at school.

"She was really sweet. She actually asked if she could be my peer helper right before the end of school yesterday (Thursday)," teacher Sandy Huffer said.

Parker was on the porch with Fenwick when he was shot twice in the chest. His mother, Eginee Phillips, said her son was talking about Halloween plans with Fenwick when the shooting occurred.

"He is just about out of the woods. Thank God. The surgery went OK," she said. "Other than that, we are just praying. I just pray with him every time I go in there."

Phillips said she talked to Johnson after the incident.

"It's puzzling to know they have Domonic because I briefly talked to Domonic after it happened, and he just didn't seem like he had done it."

Phillips said she is encouraging her son, who is listed in serious condition in the hospital, to get well. She even said he may be healthy enough to compete in a stepshow at his church next week.
