Authorities said 16-year-old Yuri Wilson, 15-year-old Montez Antonio Stevons and 15-year-old Antoine Johnson were recaptured without incident around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday at 1113 Fargo Street.
Wilson is being held in the Durham County Jail and Stevons was returned to the Durham Youth Home. Johnson, who was being held on $1 million bond for a number of violent crimes prior to his escape, is being held at a secure facility in Rockingham.
The teenagers escaped from the youth home on Broad Street early Monday morning after overpowering a detention councilor at the facility.
State law prohibits the release of any information regarding juveniles. However, late Tuesday afternoon, Judge Marcia Morey ordered the information about the juveniles to be released to the public, citing extraordinary circumstances.
The teens were found within 3 hours of the release of their names and photos.
One Durham County commissioner said the law needs to be changed.
"I think it says to us we need to do a better job the next time something like this happens," commissioner Joe Bowser said. "When you have individuals break out of a facility like that on a Monday morning and it's raining and they're cold and desperate, they're subject to do anything."
Once the new Board of Commissioners is elected, it could vote to submit a proposal to legislators who would submit the proposal with their county legislative packet to the General Assembly in the spring.
The youth home remains on lockdown and locks were changed on all doors Tuesday.An investigation is under way to determine went wrong. That investigation is expected to be finished by the end of the week.
