Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — The search for Durham's next police chief is wrapping up as City Manager Marcia Conner will visit the hometowns of each of the three finalists over the weekend.

Charles Austin, chief and assistant city manager for public safety in Columbia, S.C., Marvin Evans, captain for the Newport News, Va., police, and Doug Scott, who works for the U.S. Department of Interior in Fairfax, Va., are in contention for the vacant police chief position.

The city has been without a police chief since January.

Conner's decision is expected by the end of the month.
