Western Harnett H.S. Student In Trouble For Bringing Gun To School

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 15-year-old student at

Western Harnett High School

will be charged with felony possession of a weapon on campus.

Authorities say someone tipped off school leaders that the teen was planning to bring a weapon to school.

The Harnett County deputy assigned to the school greeted the student as he got off the bus Thursday morning, and found a loaded handgun in his bookbag. The case is being turned over to juvenile authorities.

The student is automatically subject to a state-mandated 365-day suspension, effective immediately. A letter is being sent home with parents, and all the students were told about the incident.
