N.C. CP&L Workers Headed To Louisiana For Lili Aftermath

crews from North Carolina are headed to Louisiana in case

Hurricane Lili

causes major power outages.

CP&L said 290 workers, including linemen, tree personnel and support staff, will supply backup for CLECO, a utility company serving Louisiana.

CLECO workers came to North Carolina in 1996 to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Fran and requested CP&L's help.

"We've had quite a bit of experience with hurricanes over the last couple of years and it feels good to be able to give back and help some of these folks that came up here and helped in 1996 after Fran," said Rory Jones of CP&L.

Teams of workers deployed at 5 a.m. Wednesday and are expected to arrive at a staging area in Covington, La. on Friday. From there, CP&L crews will be dispatched to assist with restoration needs.

CP&L crews are anticipating four to five days of work followed by another two-day return trip home.
