New Rain Barrels Conserve Water In Wake County

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Wake County residents can help conserve water with new rain barrels.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 16,

Wake County Environmental Services

will sell the 65-gallon rain barrels at the North Wake Landfill for $65 each.

The barrels have a brass spigot that will connect to any standard garden hose, allowing residents to collect rainwater and use it to water gardens and plants.

They also have a screen trap at the water entry point to keep out unwanted pests, such as mosquitoes.

Wake County accepts cash or check payment for the barrels, but warn customers that they are large and may not fit in a compact car.

The North Wake Landfill is located off Durant Road in northern Wake County, between Falls of the Neuse and Capital Boulevard, and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
