Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A former candidate to become Durham's new police chief could re-enter the race.

William Carcara, who was on the list of finalists before the Durham search was reopened last week, was passed over for a police chief job in Sarasota, Florida, according to the

Durham Herald Sun

.

Carcara, the current police chief in Jefferson County, Ky., bowed out of the running for the Durham job when city manager Marcia Connor told him she needed a decision immediately.

Connor's first choice, Greg Watkins, resigned amid allegations of domestic abuse.

There is no word on if Carcara will reapply for the Durham job.
