The medical examiner's report also shows that 33-year-old Heather Domenie, a first-grade teacher at Fred A. Olds Elementary School, had some scratches and bruises. The autopsy report also reveals "blunt force injuries" on various parts of her body including her arms, abdomen and neck.
Her fiance, Ian Campbell, is charged with her murder. He remains in the Wake County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Authorities are looking at whether Campbell had an inappropriate relationship with another woman, Magalie Lelong.
Police say two weeks after Domenie's death, Campbell and Lelong went to Fins Restaurant in Raleigh, where employees claim the two were holding hands, and they had been at that restaurant before.
Court records show police searched Lelong's apartment for a number of items, including information about life insurance.
In court, defense lawyer Tommy Manning told the judge that Campbell would probably not be able to afford an attorney. However, county records show that Campbell owns the $200,000 Cary home on North Becket Street he shared with Domenie. A police affidavit also indicates that Campbell owns a BMW Z3.
Until his arrest, Campbell worked as a computer engineer at CIBER on Six Forks Road in Raleigh.
When asked if anyone else could be charged in Domenie's murder, the district attorney says the investigation is ongoing. Prosecutors have not decided whether or not they will seek the death penalty.
