Stop Stick Credited With Ending Wake County Car Chase

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two armed robbery suspects are in the Wake County jail, thanks in part to a device that crippled their get-away car.

A state Highway Patrol trooper used a stop stick to puncture a tire of a car that led police across Wake County Monday. The spikes slowly deflated the tire so police could arrest the suspects.

"It really slows the pursuit down and slows the car down. Slower speeds mean less danger to the public," said Sgt. Wade Bulloch of the state Highway Patrol.

Jerry Henderson of Warrenton and Kareem Ali Lewis of Henderson, appeared in court Tuesday to face armed robbery charges. Their next court date is in September.
