RALEIGH, N.C. — Franklin County leaders say a building boom is putting a crunch on the water supply and budget.
The county planning board is considering a measure to limit subdivisions to six homes or less unless they connect to the county's water supply. Opponents told county leaders Monday night that more restrictions could hurt everyone.
"Again, we still have a real groundwater issue with the unknown quantity of how much groundwater we have," planning director Matt Livingston said.
"Ultimately, it will inflict a high tax on every member in our county," resident Gil Silva said.
Developers say there is a high demand in parts of Franklin County, and the county will only hurt itself by shutting out more homes.
