RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh police officer was injured while trying to arrest a suspect Thursday morning.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, Officer G.J. Palczak approached a suspicious person in a park near Hunter Elementary School on Davie Street around 4:30 a.m.

Palczak ordered the man to take his hands out of his pockets. When he did so, cocaine appeared to fall out. When Palzcak tried to arrest the man, he swung at the officer with a knife or box cutter and cut Palczak on the arm, police said.

Palzcak fired his weapon twice, but did not hit the suspect, who got away.

Palzcak was treated and released from WakeMed.
