Harnett County School Bus Fleet Vandalized

Posted Updated

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — The Harnett County school superintendent said a fleet of school buses damaged over the weekend will be ready in time for the first day of school next week.

More than 60 school buses were vandalized at Harnett Central Middle School, where the county parks its entire bus fleet. Doors were smashed, windshields broken and seats were slashed.

"For me to say why it was done, I couldn't say other than that in my own opinion some folks are just mean and want to be destructive," said Donald Andrews, school superintendent.

Andrews estimates the damages at $20,000. He said even though the glass for the windshields has to be shipped from Tennessee, the buses will be ready by August 7.
