"A few of the employees will be brought back on a part-time basis to work on projects that haven't been completed," said Leila Tvedt of the Agency for Public Telecommunications.
The agency produces Open Net and video productions for state agencies. Those who come back will get at least six more weeks of work.
Gov. Mike Easley exercised his emergency budget powers telling 1,300 state employees their jobs would end on Wednesday. One of those people is Carrolle Carter, who produces and directs programs for the Agency for Public Telecommunications. She said things have been tough.
"You come to work and you're packing up things, but you still have an obligation to clients," she said.
"We have been in a schizophrenic stage of servicing clients, producing Open Net," Tvedt said. "Open Net is being produced this evening and getting ready to shut down if that was the final decision. There hasn't been time to cry about this."
Carter said she will continue to look for a job. The agency said it will do the best it can, hoping lawmakers find a way to keep it operating.
