Chatham County Family Returns From Vacation To Find Pet Dead

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Chatham County family returns from summer vacation only to make a disturbing discovery involving one of their beloved family pets.

Shelia Caldwell and her husband had their children watch their three dogs when they went away for a week. When they got back, they found something that shocked the entire family. Two of her dogs were OK, but someone attacked her dog, Queen, and skinned her to death in the driveway.

"I saw a clump of fur in the driveway and I thought my daughter had shaven the dog," she said. "I can't think of anything I've done to someone that would want to take it out on a defenseless animal."

The Caldwell family is pleading for anyone who knows something about the case to come forward.

"This is not just a dog. It's part of the family," Caldwell said.

The Chatham County sheriff's office is investigating the crime. They suspect someone may have done some form of ritual sacrifice. Right now, there are no witnesses and no leads.
